The Hard Truth of MacBook Keyboard Replacement : DIY vs. Professional Repair

·         The "Tent" Technique. Open the laptop screen as wide as it goes and flip the MacBook upside down on a towel so it looks like an upside-down "V". This uses gravity to draw the liquid away from the delicate internal logic board and out through the keyboard keys.

·         Breaking the Rivets: Because the keyboard is riveted into the aluminum frame, you have to use brute force or pliers to physically shear off 50 to 100 individual rivets to pull the old keyboard out.

·         Tapping New Threads: Because the original rivets are destroyed, you must carefully screw the new keyboard down into the tiny remaining holes using 50+ custom microscopic screws. If you misalign the backlight sheet, your keys will feel mushy, sink into the frame, or have uneven lighting.
